Chrysler is recalling certain 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks because of a software problem with the Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Approximately 46,000 vehicles manufactured between June 26, 2012 to February 5, 2013 are affected by this problem.

According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some Ram 1500 4×4 trucks could experience a configuration mismatch upon starting the vehicle, which could result in the ECS warning lamp to illuminate and disable the system. A disabled ECS system could result in loss of directional control and increase the chance of an accident.

Chrysler will be asking owners to take their vehicles in to have the ECS module software updated, free of charge. For more information about the stability problem, contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.
