Nissan is recalling certain 2013 Titan trucks and 2013 NV vehicles because a problem in the transmission could lead to the vehicles unexpectedly rolling away. Titan vehicles equipped with console mounted transmission shift levers are not affected. The steering column mounted transmission shift lever is unique to the subject vehicles, no other Nissan models are affected.

A change in the solution used for anti rust protection at the supplier resulted in a chemical reaction that affects the foam used to dampen sound in the shifter mechanism. The foam could adhere to the lever lock, preventing it from returning to the locked position. The brake shift interlock man not operate correctly allowing the transmission shift lever to shift out of “Park” without pressing the brake pedal. If the vehicle is unintentionally shifted out of park, it could roll away causing a vehicle crash and injury. Owners wanting more information about the problem may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261.
