The job of an oxygen sensor in a vehicle is to compare the oxygen content coming out of the exhaust to the oxygen content in the exhaust stream. This helps the vehicle computer determine whether to enrich or lean the fuel mixture, allowing the catalytic converter to operate more efficiently and reduce emissions into the environment. Hyundai is recalling over one million vehicles for a defective stop lamp switch that could experience an intermittent switch point contact. This condition could result in intermittent operation of the push button start feature, the inability to remove the transmission from the “park” position, illumination of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) warning lamp, intermittent interference with operation of the cruise control, and intermittent operation of the stop lamps.
