Hyundai will be recalling approximately five thousand two hundred 2012-2013 Hyundai Azera vehicles in the United States, because of a problem with the airbag classification system.

According to the defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai’s airbag sensor supplier made a change to the ripstop fabric used on the airbag sensor mat. The change in fabric could potentially change the conductivity of the mat causing it to fail to distinguish the front passenger from an adult or a child. The failure of the system to deactivate the airbag under certain conditions could result in injury during an accident.

Hyundia will be notifying customers to take their vehicles in to their nearest dealership to have the airbag system recalibrate. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
