Mercedes Benz will be asking a small number of 2014 GL full-size luxury crossover SUV owners to take their vehicles to an approved Mercedes dealership to repair a problem that could lead to an unsafe child seat installation. The subject GL-Class (X166 platform) vehicles are equipped with 60/40 split second row foldable seats.

Due to a deviation in the supplier manufacturing process, the mount for the 60% seat pan may have been welded to the seat structure at an angle that could prevent the seat pan from reaching its intended position when folded down. Without the use of the lower anchor points, a child restraint may be insufficiently or improperly anchored, increasing the risk of injury during an accident.
