An increase in warranty claims on certain 2012-2013 Volkswagen Passat cars has resulted in the automobile manufacturer identifying an issue with the headlights. They will notifying owners of the affected vehicles with instructions to make an appointment with an authorized dealer to have the problem repaired. Volkswagen’s recall number is 94G8/7V and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-125.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, it is possible that vibrations resulting from closing the hood roughly could result in the low beam headlight bulb to lose electrical contact. The loss of low beam headlights could reduce the driver’s visibility and increase the risk of an accident. Drivers of vehicles experiencing the problem will be alerted by an illuminated warning in the instrument panel cluster.

Dealers will install an improved bulb fitting installed and the hood bumpers will be inspected and adjusted or replaced as necessary to prevent the hood from contacting the headlight assembly during closing. For more information about the problem, contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.
