Chrysler is recalling certain 2013 Fiat 500E electric vehicles manufactured December 16, 2012, through August 13, 2013, because bolts in the half shaft joints may not be engineered correctly. The NHTSA Campaign Number is13V358000. The recall affects 491 vehicles.

The incorrectly manufactured part could lead to some of these vehicles experiencing loosening of the fasteners attaching the half shaft inboard constant velocity joint to the gearbox output flange. Drivers may notice increased noise within the power train and could experience a loss of drive capability.

Chrysler will be notifying owners and dealers of the problem starting this month where owners will be asked to take their vehicles in for inspection and to have all the fasteners attaching the half shaft inboard joints, replaced. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Fiat at 1-888-242-6342. Chrysler’s recall number is N51.
