Kia Motors Corp. is recalling almost ten thousand 2014 Kia Sorento vehicles equipped with 2.4 liter engines and front wheel drive (FWD). The vehicles were manufactured between January 7, 2013 to March 12, 2013. The NHTSA Campaign Number is 13V356000.

According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the right front axle drive shaft could develop cracks in the stub area at the shaft wheel end. When accelerating, the crack could separate from the shaft causing a loud noise and resulting in loss of motive power.

All owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by first class mail with instructions to contact their Kia dealer to schedule an appointment. Kia will replace the right front axle driveshaft free of charge and will reimburse owners for repair expenses already incurred.
