Honda will be recalling certain 2007-2008 Honda Fit hatchback vehicles after investigating consumer complaints of door window switches overheating and catching fire.

The problem is the result of a previous recall repair that required attaching a protective plastic cover with butyl rubber adhesive to the exterior of the power window master switch. The cover was installed to provide protection from water intusion into the doors, but over time the plastic cover could start separation from the window switch surface allowing water to enter the switch. Water intrusion of the switch will cause it to overheat and could catch fire.

Due to the large number of new parts needed to repair the affected vehicles owners will be asked to first bring in their vehicles for inspection and vehicles with damaged switches will be immediately repaired. If there is no damage, the vehicle will be returned to the owner and a second notification will be sent when parts become available. Approximately 143,000 vehicles will be affected by this recall.
