General Motors (GM) will be contacting owners of certain Chevrolet and Buick cars to bring in their vehicles for a problem with the drivers side air bag coil. The problem is being blamed on a shorting bar in the system which could come in contact with the air bag terminals. If the terminals are shorted at the time of a crash, the airbag will not deploy, increasing the risk of injury to the driver. Owners receiving a recall notification can bring in their vehicles to have the steering wheel airbag coil replaced. For more information about the problem, contact GM at 1-800-521-7300.
