The rear side door lock mechanism in certain 2014 BMW X5 SAV vehicles may have been manufactured to an incorrect tolerance. When the inside door handle is pulled twice, the child safety lock could become disengaged. Rear seat occupants may be able to unexpectedly open the door while the vehicle is driving or in park, increasing the risk of an accident.

BMW will be asking owners to return their vehicles to a BMW approved repair facility to have the rear side door locks inspected and parts replaced as necessary. For more information about the problem, owners are asked to contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
