Ford has identified a condition relating to safety in certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape SUV’s manufactured between October 2011 to April 2013. The automobile manufacturer will be asking approximately 581,986 vehicle owners to return to an approved repair facility to have the problem repaired free of charge.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, an assembly misalignment could exist between the exterior door handle and the door outer panel. This misalignment could cause an internal interference and a binding condition that could result in the door being difficult to close, or the door could unexpectedly open while driving. No injuries have been reported as a result of the condition, but the problem could increase the risk of injury to occupants and other drivers on the road.

Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have all four doors handles inspected and repositioned as necessary. Ford’s recall number is 14S03 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-239. For more information about the issue, contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673.
