Chrysler has identified a problem affecting airbags in certain 2013 Dodge Dart vehicles, equipped with “Mopar 13” Upfit packages. On September 24, 2013, Chrysler opened an investigation into the improper installation of seat mounted side airbags (SAB) after being informed by their supplier of an operator noncompliance with work instructions.

According to the report filed with the NHTSA, the front seat mounted side airbags were not inserted into the seat cover intensifier sleeve prior to being secured to the seat side member. In a side impact collision, the airbag may not deploy through the seat tear seam properly and may not perform as designed.

Chrysler will as owner of the affected vehicles to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the SAB inspected and re- installed as necessary. The NHTSA campaign number is 13V-555 and the Chrysler recall campaign number is N61. Approximately 374 vehicles could be affected by the problem.
