General Motors is recalling almost twenty thousand 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra full size pickup trucks because the front seats may not meet the federal safety standards for seat protection.

According to the recall report, trucks equipped with front seat manual adjusters may not provide adequate protection against neck injuries in a rear impact crash. The problem was discovered by a quality inspector who noticed the front seat moved unexpectedly when he threw his weight against it. There have not been any known injuries related to the problem.

This seat back problem is the second safety issue for these trucks. At the end of July, GM issued a recall for approximately eight hundred and fifty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full size pickup trucks for a defective airbag inflator that could fracture when the airbag is deployed.

Owners receiving a recall notice will be asked to take their trucks to their nearest dealer to have it inspected and repaired as necessary. For more information about the problem, contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546 and GMC at 1-866-996-9463.
