Merecedes Benz will be recalling seventy one 2013 SLK250 and SLK350 compact roadster automobiles manufactured between October 2012 to November 2012. These vehicles may have been equipped with an occupant classification system (OCS) that does not properly detect whether a child seat or a small person is sitting in the passenger seat.

During the assembly process, the OCS may have not been calibrated correctly to assure that the system complies with the pre-set threshold values. The OCS could wrongly classify the passenger and in the event of a crash leave the passenger unprotected.

Mercedes will be notifying owners, and dealers will replace the complete passenger side seat cushion as well as the OCS on the affected vehicles. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Mercedes at 1-201-573-0600.
