Certain 2014 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured in the Smyrna, TN plant between January 10, 2014, to January 17, 2014, may be affected by a safety defect which could result in loss of steering. Approximately 1,644 vehicles are involved in this recall, with less than one percent estimated to actually contain the defect.

Due to an isolated supplier parts delivery error, an incorrect bolt may have been used to connect the intermediate steering shaft to the upper steering assembly. Over time, the bolt could loosen and fall out, potentially causing a loss of vehicle control. Drivers will be alerted of a problem by a rattling noise coming from the steering column.

Owners will be notified to take their vehicles to a Nissan dealer to have the steering column assembly inspected and the bolt replaced, as necessary. For more information about the problem, owners are asked to contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 14V-218
