Volvo Cars of North America, LLC have reported a non compliance defect in certain 2011-2012 S60 cars equipped with 5 cylinder B5254T5 engines and manufactured between June 22, 2010 through May 14, 2012. The number of vehicles affected by the problem is estimated to be approximately 31,000. Volvo’s recall number is R29436 and the NHTSA Campaign Number is 13V-592.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the engine oil pressure sensor in these vehicles may have not been activated in the vehicles software during manufacturing. If the driver unknowingly continues to drive the vehicle in a low oil pressure situation, it could result in damage the engine and a vehicle stall. An unexpected stall while driving could increase the chance of an accident.

Volvo will be notifying owners to return their S60 vehicles to the nearest manufacturer approved repair facility to have their vehicle’s software updated. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
