After a short investigation into stalling Ford Focus electric vehicles, the automobile manufacturer has identified a problem that will have 2,456 owners taking their cars in for repairs. The investigation began last month after drivers complained about vehicles unexpectedly shutting down at speeds of 30 mph or more.

Vehicles affected by the problem include certain 2012-2014 Ford Focus EV’s built at the Michigan Assembly Plant between September 15, 2011 to August 23, 2013. According to the recall report unexpected loss of motive power could increase the chance of an accident.

Owners will be notified and instructed to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the Power-train Control Module (PCM) reprogrammed to the latest calibration using IDS release 86.04 and higher.

Ford’s recall campaign number is 13S09 and the NHTSA Campaign Number is 13V-523 . Owners wanting more information about the stalling problem can contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.
