Chrysler Group LLC will be conducting a safety recall on approximately one hundred and eighty thousand 2012-2013 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured between January 23, 2011 through February 23, 2013. The affected vehicles are equipped with 3.6L engines and automatic transmissions.

According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an investigation opened in August 2012 found that certain Wrangler vehicles could experience a condition where the power steering return line contacts and wears a hole in the aluminum transmission oil cooler line. This could result in a loss of transmission fluid which will cause damage to the transmission and loss of its function. Chrysler will inspect the power steering return tube assembly and the transmission oil cooler lines and replace them as necessary. A protective sleeve will also be added to the lines.

Chrysler will also be recalling about two hundred and fifty thousand 2010-2012 Jeep Compass and 2010-2012 Jeep Patriot vehicles because a software error could result in a delayed deployment or non deployment of the seat belt pre-tensioners and/or side airbags. In the event of a rollover, the vehicle occupants will not be protected properly.

Owners wanting more information about the problems can contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.

If you have already had these repairs done and have incurred costs in the process, Chrysler has a longstanding policy of reimbursing owners. To ensure consistency, Chrysler will request customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
