Owners of approximately 90 thousand 2014 Kia Forte cars will be contacted by the manufacturer to return to their dealership to repair a cooling fan thermal issue. According to reports on the NHTSA website, under certain circumstances, a cooling fan resistor could overheat and melt creating the risk of a fire.

  • Owners of vehicles produced from December 5, 2012 to January 27, 2014 will have the cooling fan resistor and multi-fuse unit replaced
  • Owners of vehicles produced from January 28, 2014 to April 17, 2014 will have only the multi-fuse unit replaced.
  • Owners of vehicles with the 1.8L engine will have the engine control unit software updated.

Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC113 and the NHTSA campaign number is 15V-015.
