Owners of certain 2014 Cadillac ELR luxury plug-in hybrid compact coupes will be asked to return their vehicles to a manufacturer approved repair facility because they may fail to conform to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The problem was first noticed during a field performance evaluation review carried out on March 19, 2014. GM’s recall number is 14087 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-144.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, vehicles without adaptive cruise control were built with a calibration that inhibits some ESC diagnostics. If the diagnostics are inhibited the ESC malfunction indicator light will not illuminate during certain fault conditions. Failure to warn the driver of a problem can increase the chances of an accident.

GM dealers will correct the problem by recalibrating the Electronic Brake Control Module. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006.
