Toyota will be notifying owners of certain 2014 Highlanders about a manufacturing error that could result in the vehicles not meeting the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards for “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages”. The potential number of vehicles affected by this problem are 7,067. The NHTSA campaign number is 14v-051.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the third row middle seat belt assembly may have not been properly secured to the vehicle floor anchor during vehicle assembly. If not properly secured, the anchorage, attachment hardware, and attachment bold do not meet the strength requirements outlined in S4.2 of FMVSS No. 210. A seat belt that is not properly secured could increase the risk of injury to occupants during a collision.

All known owner of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their Highlander to a Toyota dealer to have the third row middle seat belt inspected and properly secured if necessary. For more information about the problem, owners can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
