Chrysler Group LLC will be asking owners of certain 2014 RAM ProMaster cargo vans to take their vehicles to the nearest manufacturer approved repair facility to fix a problem that could result in uncontrolled acceleration. The recall comes after an investigation into a stuck accelerator pedal discovered during third party testing in December 2013.

Some 2014 RAM ProMaster vehicles could experience a stuck accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle (WOT) position as a result of the driver applying an angled downward force to the pedal. Chrysler has determined that the condition is the result of a combination of a small diameter and low friction finish on the stopper and the allowance of lateral deflection while the pedal is depressed. (Note: These vehicles are equipped with a brake override system that will brake the vehicle and enable the driver to slow, stop, and turn off the vehicle safely.)

Chrysler is unaware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue, but a stuck accelerator pedal could result in uncontrolled acceleration and an increased risk of an accident. Chrysler dealers will remedy the problem by replacing the accelerator pedal topper with a larger on. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s recall number is P02 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-032.
