General Motors (GM) will be recalling certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra trucks because the airbags on these vehicles may not deploy properly. GM immediately began investigating the issue after their supplier informed them about the condition in July 2012. 843 vehicles are affected by this problem.

According to the recall report filed by GM, the welding on the passenger airbag inflator could fracture when the airbag is deployed. The fracture could allow some gas to be vented behind the instrument panel. As a result, the airbag may not fully inflate increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

GM will begin notifying owners and dealers of the problem beginning in August. Owners will be asked to bring in their vehicles to have the passenger air bag module replaced. For more information about the problem, contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546 and GMC at 1-866-996-9463. GM’s recall number is 13230.
