2021 Chevrolet Tahoe & 2021 GMC Yukon Fuel Smell

General Motors has decided that a safety defect exists in certain 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 GMC Yukon trucks. They will be contacting owners with instructions to return to their dealerships for repairs.

According to the defect report, a small number of 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 GMC Yukon vehicles may have been manufactured with fuel tank assemblies that are missing an adhesive between two layers of the fuel tank shell. Under certain conditions, fuel could start seeping between the layers and could result in a slow fuel leak over time. If fuel were to contact an ignition source, there is an increased risk of a vehicle fire. If a vehicle is experiencing this problem, drivers may notice a fuel odor smell inside and near the vehicle.

Owners receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have the fuel tank replaced. GM’s number for this recall is N212327720 and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V-064.

2017 GMC Yukon – California Lemon Law Buyback

Our client leased a 2017 GMC Yukon. After trying unsuccessfully eight times to have his vehicle repaired, he called our law office for advice and to retain our firm.

In April 2017 he took it to an authorized GMC dealership because the airbag light was on. In May he returned to the dealership because he had hot air coming out of the air conditioner and a loud crunching noise in the dash. His third visit was on account of the vehicle making a loud popping/clicking noise while making a turn. In September the Yukon was in due to it was leaking an oily fluid which was coming from the front wheel area. The next visit was in January 2018 because the vehicle had lost power at an intersection and had to be pushed and towed. His sixth visit was in May – the brake light was not working. In September he brought his Yukon in due to the air conditioning was blowing hot air again. His last visit to the dealership was in December 2018 because of a loud tapping noise from the right. We analyzed our client’s potential lemon law case by reviewing all the repair orders and determined that he had a valid claim under the California lemon law to have the vehicle repurchased.

We sent a demand letter to the manufacturer and demanded that they buy back the vehicle under the California Lemon Law. General Motors Corporation agreed to repurchase the defective 2017 GMC Yukon, pay off the balance on the lease and reimburse our client for the down payment, monthly payments, less a mileage fee allowed under the California Lemon Law. The also paid the attorney fees. We were also able to get additional compensation for our client.

Cadillac, Chevy & GMC Seatbelt Safety Defect

General Motors has decided that a seat belt safety issue exists in certain 2020-2021 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. They will be contacting owners with instructions to return to their dealerships for repairs.

According to the safety report filed with the NHTSA, the wrong seat belt bolt may have been used at one or multiple locations to secure the seat belt to the vehicle. If an incorrect bolt was used, the seat belt may not be properly attached and may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash.

Chevrolet And GMC Trucks – Center Seating/Console Rattle

A defect relating to seatbelt safety will have approximately 624,000 Chevrolet and GMC truck owners returning to their dealerships for an inspection and repairs. These vehicles are equipped with a center front row seating position.

According to the NHTSA defect report, the center front row seatbelt bracket may not be properly secured to the seat frame. If the bracket is loose, the seatbelt will not restrain the occupant during a crash or high-speed braking event.

WARNING: Signs that the problem exists include a rattling coming from the center seat / console area, the center front seat belt will feel loose or could detach from the seat completely.

GM, Nissan and VW Recalled For Defective Tires

The owners of certain 2020-2021 General Motors, Nissan and Volkswagen vehicles will be contacted by the automobile manufacturer regarding a problem that could exist with their tires. Continental Tires of America (CTA) have initiated a recall for tires that may have been installed as original equipment on some models.

According to CTA, over-cured tires could experience a break in the sidewall with sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation that could lead to partial or full tread/belt loss. These conditions could increase the risk of an accident.

Weak Driveshaft Welds – Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Trucks

General Motors will be contacting a small number of 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 2019-2020 GMC Sierra 1500 owners. because of a manufacturing problem affecting the power train in their vehicles.

According to the defect report, these trucks may contain a drive shaft with an improperly welded yoke to tube joint. This defective weld could case the drive shaft to separate under load, causing a loss of propulsion and an increased risk of an accident.

GM will be asking owners to return to their dealers to have the driveshaft replaced. GM’s number for this recall is N202314870 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-650.

Engine Stall From Insufficient Fuel Supply

General Motors will be asking the owners of certain 2020 GM automobiles to return to their dealerships to fix a problem affecting the fuel supply system in their vehicles. The vehicles affected include 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia.

According to the defect report, the fuel pump assemblies in these vehicles may have been produced with burrs inside the mixing tube. Over time, these burrs could prevent the transfer of fuel from the secondary side of the fuel tank to the primary side. At low fuel levels, the engine may not receive enough fuel and the engine could stall unexpectedly. A stall without warning, especially at high speeds, could increase the risk of an accident.

Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the fuel pump module. GM’s number for this recall is N202314760 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-639.

GM Transmission Oil Leak

General Motors has decided that a safety defect exists in certain 2018-2020 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. They will be notifying owners with instructions about how to get their vehicle repaired.

According to the defect report, some of these vehicles are equipped with a start / stop accumulator that may have missing bolts on the end cap. These loose bolts could result in a transmission oil leak that could progress into a complete loss of vehicle propulsion. A transmission leak in the presence of an ignition source could also result in a vehicle fire.
