Chrysler will be asking owners of certain 2015-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles, equipped with a power liftgate option, to return to their dealerships for an electrical problem. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, some vehicles may experience a corrosion induced high resistance short circuit due to liquid intrusion into the Power Liftgate Control Module. Under certain rare circumstances, the defect could result in a vehicle fire.

Dealers will inspect the module and connections for corrosion and replace damaged components as necessary. The mastic shield will be removed from the module and will be replaced with a water shield. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is R67 and the NHTSA campaign number is 15V-826.
