Ford has determined that the windshields on certain 2011 Ford E-Series cargo vans may not meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) for driver visibility. Approximately 100 of the 4,532 vehicles recalled are expected to be affected by this problem. Ford’s recall number is 11C20 and the NHTSA campaign number is 11V-445.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, certain manufacturing conditions may have allowed air particles to be trapped between the layers of glass. If the vehicle is exposed to high temperatures, such as parking in the hot sun with the windows closed, the windshield could slowly develop air bubbles in the glass. Because the defect is a slow process it is not an immediate safety concern, but if the problem is ignored, it could affect the drivers visibility.

The vehicles affected by this defect includes: 2011 model year E-150, E-250, E-350, and E-450 cargo vans. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332.
