2015 Hyundai Genesis Instrument Cluster Gives Incorrect Readings

The owners of certain 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedans will be contacted by the manufacturer regarding a problem affecting the instrument cluster readings. The affected vehicles may exhibit one or more of the safety related symptoms:

  • All warning lights may illuminate
  • Speedometer/tachometer/odometer readings are inaccurate
  • No cluster illumination
  • Turn signal indicators not illuminating when turn signals are activated
  • Momentarily inoperative instrument cluster

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealers to have the instrument cluster software reprogrammed. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 147 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-575.

2016 Mercedes Benz GLE450 Engine Shuts Down While Braking

Daimler AG has determined that certain 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 Coupe 292 platform vehicles have an issue with the engine control unit (ECU). According to the defect report, the engine control software might cause the engine to unexpectedly shut down while braking. The driver may interpret the shut down as a planned ECO start/stop, but the engine will not restart automatically and will require the driver to restart the vehicle manually. Depending on the traffic situation, an unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have the ECU software updated. For more information about the problem, owners are asked to contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 16V-440.

Chrysler Power Train Software Problem

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles about a power train software problem. The affected models are equipped with 8 speed transmissions and a monostable gear selector. According to the defect report, the software used to warn drivers exiting the vehicle, that their vehicle is not in “Park”, may not adequately warn the driver. Drivers thinking that their vehicle’s transmission is in the “Park” position may be struck by the vehicle and injured if they attempt to get out of the vehicle while the engine is running and the parking brake is not engaged. Chrysler Software Vulnerable To Hacking

Some 2013-2015 Chrysler vehicles equipped with RA3 or RA4 model radios may have certain software vulnerabilities which could allow third party access to some vehicle control systems. If the system is exploited, an unauthorized remote modification could expose the driver, occupants, and other individuals within the proximity to a potential risk of injury. 2013-2015 Fiat 500 Unexpectedly Shifts To Neutral

In April 2015, Fiat’s Vehicle Safety And Regulatory Compliance deportment began an investigation into certain 2013-2015 Fiat 500 battery electric vehicles after receiving warranty reports of loss of driving power. A review of the problem found that rapid operation of the cruise control speed adjustment switch or accelerator pedal application, while in cruise control, may set a diagnostic trouble code in the Elective Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU). This code will will force the vehicle into safe mode and automatically shift the vehicle into neutral. Acura MDX & RLX Collision Avoidance Malfunction

Honda will be notifying owners of certain Acura MDX and RLX vehicles about a safety problem affecting the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). According to reports filed with the NHTSA, under certain driving conditions the CMBS may interpret roadside objects, such as metal fences and guardrails, as obstacles, and apply emergency braking.
