Chrysler will be asking owners of certain 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. equipped with a power liftgate option, to return to their dealerships, after investigating complaints of fire in the liftgate area. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, water may enter the area of the Power Liftgate Control Module, causing a high resistance short circuit.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have the power liftgate control module and connectors inspected for corrosion. A bolt will be installed in replacements of the threaded grommet to seal an attachment point in non-power liftgates and will cover the control module in a foam water shield.

Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is R27 and the NHTSA campaign number is 15V-393.
