Chrysler TIPM Defects And Investigations
Owners experiencing problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) of certain Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles may find help after a federal judge granted preliminary approval to a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges Chrysler sold and leased 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs equipped with defective TIPMs. The defect resulted a variety of problems including engine stalls; airbag non-deployment; random horn, headlight, taillight, door lock, instrument panel and windshield wiper activity; and failure of the fuel pump shutoff. 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lemon Law Buyback
The owner of a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, bought in November 2013, started experiencing repeated problems with his SUV shortly after purchasing it. Chrysler Software Vulnerable To Hacking
Some 2013-2015 Chrysler vehicles equipped with RA3 or RA4 model radios may have certain software vulnerabilities which could allow third party access to some vehicle control systems. If the system is exploited, an unauthorized remote modification could expose the driver, occupants, and other individuals within the proximity to a potential risk of injury. 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee Liftgate Control Module Short
Chrysler will be asking owners of certain 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. equipped with a power liftgate option, to return to their dealerships, after investigating complaints of fire in the liftgate area. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, water may enter the area of the Power Liftgate Control Module, causing a high resistance short circuit. Continue reading
Jeep & Dodge SUVs Investigated For Repeated Electrical Problem
According to reports filed with the NHTSA, an investigation has been opened to examine the effectiveness of a recall repair affecting certain 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles.
On July 1st, 2014 Chrysler issued safety recall 14V-391 (Recall #9) to remedy a wiring related fire hazard in which an electrical short in the vanity lamp wiring in the sun visors could overheat and ignite. The Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) has received 8 reports of fires occurring after the remedy was installed. Some occupants report smoke, sometimes followed by flames, coming from the headliner. If the investigation leads to a recall, approximately 661,888 SUVs could be affected.
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Repeated Repair Attempts
Despite numerous complaints and nine (9) unsuccessful repair attempts, the owner of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee was still driving a vehicle with defects. The problems included an air bag warning light that would illuminate; an engine that would stall and not start; white smoke from the exhaust system; a check engine light that remains on; and a defective drivers seat, door locks, and A/C system.
