Ford is looking for a better price for its Volvo unit and has slowed down the process. Ford wants to wait and see how G.M. does with its sale of Opel. Ford put the unit up for sale in December as it has not been a money maker. Ford has said that they are in talks with a number of interested parties.

A new version of Ford’s Taurus will be shown in dealer showrooms in mid August. Ford had decided to scrap the Taurus name after 20 years and planned on calling its new sedan the Ford 500. Despite the fact that the Taurus reputation had grown tarnished as it became the basic vehicle of rental car fleets, Ford nevertheless calculated that the Taurus brand still had marketability. The base price will be $26,000, somewhat more than competing models.

In the late 1980’s Taurus sales were more than 500,000 units a year. Ford is looking to sell somewhere between
50,000 to 75,000 units annually for its new model.

Honda’s remade Hybrid, the Insight, is not doing as well as originally predicted. It debuted in March and was thought to be a serious contender for Toyota’s Prius. Unfortunately the reviews have not been kind and sales have not gone well.

Many people are not aware that Honda was the first auto manufacturer to bring hybrids to the United States 10 years ago. Sources are not sure why Honda has not done as well and it seems other automakers are gaining ground such as Ford, General Motors, and Nissan.
