Ford will be contacting the owners of certain 2010-2012 Ford Escape and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles regarding a problem that could result in a vehicle fire. On certain vehicles, the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) could develop cracks in the fuel supply port. A fuel leak from the FDM may cause fuel odor or visible fuel on the ground under the fuel tank. Field data shows that vehicles in states with higher ambient temperatures are more likely to experience this problem.

Dealers will replace the FDM flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port. For more information about the problem, owners are asked to contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 16S41 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-777.

Volkswagen has determined that certain 2012-2013 Audi A6 and A7 vehicles may have a defect affecting the fuel line system. According to the technical investigation, the hold function of the under hood fuel pump could fail and cause the under hood fuel hose to become porous and leak. A fuel leak may result in a noticeable fuel smell and a fire in the presence of an ignition source.

Audi will notify owners and dealers will replace the under hood fuel pump and fuel hose. For more information about the problem, owners are asked to contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 24BZ and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-646.

Ford will be asking the owners of certain 2010-2011 Fusion and Milan cars to return to their dealerships to repair a defect affecting the fuel system. According to reports, some cars may have an evaporative emissions canister purge valve (CPV) that may develop an internal leak and allow excessive vacuum to build up in the fuel tank. Repeated cycles of this condition could cause cracks to develop in the fuel tank. Drivers may detect a smell of fuel around the vehicle, observe a fuel puddle under the fuel tank, and/or experience a malfunction indicator light (MIL) illumination. Continue reading

A problem affecting certain 2015-2016 Macan S and Macan Turbo crossover vehicles will have approximately 21,835 owners returning to their dealerships for repairs. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, these vehicles may have been manufactured with a low pressure fuel line in the engine compartment that could deteriorate over time and leak. Drivers may notice a fuel order and in rare cases could experience a fire in the presence of an ignition source. Continue reading

Customer complaints regarding fuel odor in the engine compartment of certain Audi and Volkswagen vehicles will have approximately 26,000 owners returning to their dealership for repairs. According to reports, a combination of production tolerance issues combined with vibrations during dynamic driving, could result in a fuel leak in the fuel injection system. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this safety defect, but a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in an engine fire. Continue reading

A fuel injection problem affecting certain 2011-2012 Porsche Cayenne S and Panemera S hybrid vehicles will have 1,368 owners returning to their dealership’s for repairs. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, certain dynamic driving may cause unfavorable tolerance conditions of the fuel rail. Minor fuel leaks could occur at the interface of the rail and injectors, and in the presence of an ignition source, could result in an engine fire. Drivers of vehicles experiencing this problem will notice a fuel smell in the engine compartment and inside the vehicle. Continue reading

Volkswagen will be contacting certain Beetle, Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Passat owners about a manufacturing defect that could result in an engine fire.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, during manual rework at the supplier, insufficient solder may have been used to seal a cap at the fuel rail. The failing seal may leak and in the presence of an ignition source could result in fire. Drivers of vehicles experiencing this problem may notice fuel smell in or around the vehicle and/or the EPC warning light may illuminate when the fuel rail pressure cannot be maintained. BMW will be asking a small number of car and SUV owners to return to a BMW dealer for several problems that could affect the safety of their vehicles. These defects include:

2015 X3 & 2015 X4: These vehicles were produced with a driver’s side exterior rear view mirror that does not meet the U.S. market requirements. Objects viewed in the mirror will appear closer than they are, increasing the risk of a crash during lane changes. (NHTSA campaign number: 14V648.) Continue reading
