Unsecured Side Curtain Air Bags Found In GM Vehicles

General Motors has decided that a safety defect affecting airbags exists in certain 2010-2015 and 2017 Buick Enclave, 2010-2019 Chevrolet Traverse and 2011-2016 GMC Acadia vehicles.

According to the defect report, in October 2020, a third-party vehicle repair business contacted GM requesting repair assistance on a 2018 Buick Enclave. After removing the headliner to attempt to repair a sunroof water leak, the repair shop identified two fasteners that were not installed and one missing weld nut attaching the roof-rail airbag (RRAB) to the vehicle. Further investigation found that certain stampings associated with the connection of the roof rail airbag to the vehicles had damaged, out of position or missing weld nuts. Although the problem was identified during vehicle assembly, the repairs may have been missed or preformed incorrectly.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, realign or replace the weld nuts GM’s number for this recall is N202321200 and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V246.

Tire Recall Affects Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet And GMC Vehicles

General Mortors has decided that a defect affecting vehicle safety exists in some tires installed as original equipment on certain 2018-2021 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs.

According to the tire manufacturer, Continental Tires the Americas (CTA), the tires may have been over-cured and could experience an unexpected break in the sidewall. This break could lead to sudden loss of pressure or a belt edge separation that could lead to partial or full tread / belt loss. The problem could increase the risk of loss of vehicle control.

GM, Nissan and VW Recalled For Defective Tires

The owners of certain 2020-2021 General Motors, Nissan and Volkswagen vehicles will be contacted by the automobile manufacturer regarding a problem that could exist with their tires. Continental Tires of America (CTA) have initiated a recall for tires that may have been installed as original equipment on some models.

According to CTA, over-cured tires could experience a break in the sidewall with sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation that could lead to partial or full tread/belt loss. These conditions could increase the risk of an accident.

Engine Stall From Insufficient Fuel Supply

General Motors will be asking the owners of certain 2020 GM automobiles to return to their dealerships to fix a problem affecting the fuel supply system in their vehicles. The vehicles affected include 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia.

According to the defect report, the fuel pump assemblies in these vehicles may have been produced with burrs inside the mixing tube. Over time, these burrs could prevent the transfer of fuel from the secondary side of the fuel tank to the primary side. At low fuel levels, the engine may not receive enough fuel and the engine could stall unexpectedly. A stall without warning, especially at high speeds, could increase the risk of an accident.

Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the fuel pump module. GM’s number for this recall is N202314760 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-639.

GM Transmission Oil Leak

General Motors has decided that a safety defect exists in certain 2018-2020 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. They will be notifying owners with instructions about how to get their vehicle repaired.

According to the defect report, some of these vehicles are equipped with a start / stop accumulator that may have missing bolts on the end cap. These loose bolts could result in a transmission oil leak that could progress into a complete loss of vehicle propulsion. A transmission leak in the presence of an ignition source could also result in a vehicle fire.

Electronic Brake Boost Contamination In GM Vehicles

General Motors will be contacting the owners of certain 2020-2021 Buick Encore GX , 2020 Cadillac CT4, CT5 and XT4, 2020 Chevrolet Corvette and 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles because of a problem affecting the electronic brake boost system.

According to the defect report, a connector in the system may have become contaminated during the manufacturing process. The contamination could interrupt the communication between the sensor and the system, under certain conditions. If communication is interrupted, electronic brake assist could be lost and the driver will require extra pedal force to stop the vehicle. Drivers may also notice an illuminated brake warning light in the instrument panel and the vehicle speed may be limited.

Owners receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealers to have the electronic brake boost module replaced. GM’s number for this recall is A202307260 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-588.

GM Roof Rail Airbag Defect

General Motors had decided that a defect relating to vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. GM will be contacting owners of affected vehicles with instructions to return to their dealerships for repairs.

According to the recall report, the diffuser component of the roof rail airbag inflator may have an improper crimp that would allow it to separate from the inflator during airbag deployment. If this happens, the performance of the airbag may be degraded and could increase the risk of injury to occupants in an accident.

2018 Buick Regal Seat Belt Safety

General Motors will be contacting certain 2018 Buick Regal owners regarding a problem affecting the safety of the seat belts in their sedans. According to the defect report, the rear outboard seat belts may have been improperly routed around the rear seat bolster bracket during manufacturing. This improper routing could result in inadequate restraint to passengers during extreme loading conditions and an increased risk of injury to occupants.

Owners will be asked to return to their dealerships to have the rear outboard seat belt routing inspected and rerouted as necessary.
