Triumph has announced a recall for certain 2011 and 2012 Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC motorcycles, manufactured between September 2010 to June 2011. The problem is being blamed on a glitch with the engine management software (EMS). According to the report file with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the old EMS could lead to low RPMs and a potential stall when decelerating. Owners wanting more information about the recall can contact Triumph customer service department at 1-678-539-8782.

Owners of some Nissan trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUV) are urging the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to open an investigation for transmission problems. Reports filed with the NHTSA alleged that an internal crack on the oil cooler tube in some Pathfinders, Frontiers and Xterras, could force coolant into the transmission causing transmission failure. Last October, Nissan extended the warranty on radiators of 2005-2010 Frontiers, Pathfinders, and Exterras to eight years or 80, 000 miles, but under the extended warranty, Nissan did not have to cover vehicles bought used. Owners feel that Nissan extended the warranty on these vehicles, knowing they would surpass 80,000 miles before having problems with the transmission. They want Nissan to issue a recall to all owners and reimburse those who have already paid for transmission repairs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has decided to not issue a recall for some 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and 2004-2007 Mercury Monterey minivans after a year long investigation. The NHTSA started the investigation in August 2010 after receiving complaints that water could run down onto the cowling under the hood in the windshield wiper area and would drip onto the power train control module (PCM). The module would short, causing a variety of problems including stalling, poorly shifting transmission, erratic power, and a lit malfunction light. The NHTSA found that the failure rate was below what would be considered a defect trend and decided not to issue a recall. The agency will continue to monitor complaints and take further action in the future if warranted.

Honda has issued a recall for certain vehicles built between July 2004 to August 2010 for a problem within the transmission. The recall is being blamed on the outer ring of secondary shaft bearings in the transmission, breaking under certain driving conditions. The broken parts could become wedged in between the transmission idle gear and the electronic sensor housing within the transmission. The driver may experience an abnormal noise, the malfunction indicator light will turn on, the engine may stall, and/or the vehicle could roll away when in “park”. Nissan has announced a recall for some 2010-2011 Sentra sedans manufactured between May to July 2010. The problem is being blamed on a machining error that could allow for a gap to occur in the contact area of the positive terminal. This gap could result in a voltage drop that could make it difficult to start the engine and could damage the engine control module. Owners receiving the recall can take their vehicles to their local dealer to get the positive battery terminal cable end replaced. For more information contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Yamaha is recalling certain 2006-2009 FJR1300 motorcycles for an electrical problem that could lead to malfunctioning electrical systems or the engine stalling unexpectedly. The bikes, built between February 2006 to March of 2009 could have a ground joint connector harness that could overheat and cause an intermittent ground connection. Yamaha dealers will install an additional grounding lead and replace any wires and connectors damaged by heat. Owners wanting more information on the recall can contact Yamaha at 1-800-962-7926.

Last week, Volvo recalled almost 8,000 2012 S60 sedans for issues with the fuel pump software that could lead to hesitation or stalling. Volvo has announced another recall this week for the same vehicle with the same issues, but the problem is not related to software. According to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a fuel line connector was manufactured out of specification which could result in the locking function not being engaged. Drivers may notice a fuel smell or a leak, and if the line disconnects completely, the vehicle will stall. The recall will affect certain 2012 S60 vehicles built between January 18, 2011 to January 28, 2011. Owners wanting more information about the recall can contact Volvo at 1-201-768-7300.

Volvo has announced a recall that will affect some 2012 S60 passenger cars manufactured between November 2010 to May 2011. The fuel pump software may not be compatible with the installed fuel pump resulting in insufficient fuel transfer in the pump unit. Volvo S60 owners may notice engine hesitation and possible stalling under certain driving conditions. Owner wanting more information about this recall can contact Volvo at 1-201-768-7300.

In 2009 Volvo has issued recalls for their 2010 XC60, 2009-2010 XC70, and 2008-2010 S80 models for similar problem with the fuel pump and the fuel pump software.
