General Motors has decided that a defect relating to vehicle safety exists in certain 2016-2017 Cadillac, Chevy and GMC trucks and SUVs, and will be asking owners to return to their dealership for repairs. According to the defect report, the welds on the front upper control arm near the bushings may be poor quality and could fail. Chevy, Infiniti & Nissan Inaccurate Airbag Classification
Certain 2013-2017 Chevrolet, Infiniti and Nissan owners will be contacted by the manufacturer about a problem affecting the airbag deployment system. The front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Seat Belt Problem
General Motors have announced a safety defect relating to seat belts exists in certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. According to reports, in certain vehicles and seating positions, the seat-belt tensioner could move into a position forward of the seat back bolster. This allows the occupant to sit on top of it in a sliding motion while entering the vehicle. This action can bend the cable at a severe angle over the seat-side shield, and over time may cause the cable to fatigue. 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Airbag Safety Problem
General Motors has decided that certain 2016 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles have side airbag modules that do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for side impact protection and will be asking owners to return to their dealerships for repairs. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, the welds that mount the front and rear side impact airbag inflators to the seat frame could fracture and separate during deployment, increasing the risk of injury to occupants. GM Airbag Problem Could Lead To Improper Inflation
GM will be notifying the owners of certain 2016 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles about a problem affecting the driver frontal airbag, after a supplier investigation found some airbags do no meet the airbag fill time requirements for colder temperatures. According to the defect report, the secondary chemical enhancer required for proper deployment of second-stage frontal airbags was not loaded during the airbag inflator build. Vehicle involved in a high speed crash that triggers the second stage deployment of the driver frontal airbag may not fill the airbag as completely and as quickly as designed, which could lead to an increased risk of injury to the driver. GM Intermittent Audio Warnings
General Motors has decided that certain 2016 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles have a radio that may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for theft protection, roll away prevention and/or occupant crash protection. The radio software feature that checks for an open driver’s door and requests a chime may end before the radio completes its “start-up” routine. Both the key reminder chime and seat belt reminder chime will not play if that occurs. An unbelted driver is at a greater risk of injury during an accident and a key left in the ignition increases the chance of theft. Continue reading
2015 Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon Steering Defect
A defect affecting steering safety will have the owners of certain 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon trucks returning to their dealerships for repairs. The vehicles involved may have a torque sensor harness connector that was damaged during testing and could result in loss of electrical connection to the steering gear connector. If loss of connection occurs, power steering assist will be lost, a malfunction indicator light displays on the instrument panel and a chime sounds to inform the driver. Continue reading
GM Truck Brake Pedal Problem
General Motors have announced a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2015-2016 Chevrolet and GMC trucks. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the threads on the brake pedal pivot bolt may be too short to engage the locking feature of the nut. If the pedal loosens, the driver may not be able to stop the vehicle safely or the pedal could interfere with the accelerator. The driver may notice a change in brake pedal feel, the service engine soon light may illuminate, and/or the brake lights may stay on longer than expected. Continue reading
