Honda will be contacting certain 2008-2010 Accord owners about a defect affecting the deployment of the airbag system. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, manufacturing issues with the power supply integrated circuit (IC) of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit may allow moisture to enter the IC metal layer. Over time, corrosion and expansion in the layer could result in a voltage drop, making the SRS ECU unit inoperative. The SRS indicator warning light will immediately illuminate if the SRS ECU fails. 2016 Honda Pilot Safety Systems Warning Lights Fail To Illuminate
Honda will be notifying owners of certain 2016 Honda Pilot 2WD vehicles to return to their dealerships for a problem affecting the instrument cluster warning lights. During a safety system malfunction, the corresponding system warning light will not illuminate until the ignition has been turned of and then back on. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, “Electronic stability control systems”, number 135, “Light vehicle brake systems” and number 138, “Tire pressure monitoring systems”. Acura MDX A/C Clutch Bolt Failure
A manufacturing error affecting certain 2014-2015 Acura MDX and MDX AWD vehicles will have approximately 106,439 owners returning to their dealership for repairs.
According to reports, during manufacturing of the A/C compressor clutch drive bolts, certain lots failed to receive the proper dielectric topcoat. As a result, the bolts are more susceptible to corrosion and could break during operation. In addition, some bolt lots did not receive sufficient curing of the e-coat which could result in low torque values and low hardness. The bolts could loosen and fall off during operation. Acura MDX & RLX Collision Avoidance Malfunction
Honda will be notifying owners of certain Acura MDX and RLX vehicles about a safety problem affecting the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). According to reports filed with the NHTSA, under certain driving conditions the CMBS may interpret roadside objects, such as metal fences and guardrails, as obstacles, and apply emergency braking. This unexpected braking could increase the risk of an accident. Continue reading
Engine Knocks In Honda Accord & CR-V Vehicles
Honda will be asking a small number of 2014-2015 Honda Accord and 2015 Honda CR-V owners to return to their dealerships to fix a manufacturing error. According to the defect report, during assembly of the short block, it is possible that the automated system that verifies torque of the engine connecting rod bolts may not have identified improperly torqued bolts in a specific group of engines. The problem could result in the engine rattling and knocking, oil leaks, and loss of power. Loss of engine power may result in a vehicle stall and an increased risk of an accident. Also, if the engine leaks oil in the proximity of hot engine or exhaust components, there is an increased risk of a fire. Continue reading
Acura MDX & RLX Seat Belt Problem
A part dimension error in the seat belts of certain 2014-2015 Acura MDX and 2014 Acura RLX vehicles will have approximately 43,000 owners returning to their dealership to have the defect repaired. According to reports, the relationship between the tolerances within the seat belt re-tractor versus low temperatures could affect the operation of the belts. The driver and front passenger seat belts may not extend or retract in low temperatures, increasing the risk of injury during an accident. Continue reading
