Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2016 Dodge Durango and 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.6L engines, regarding a problem affecting the fuel system. According to the defect report, the fuel rail crossover tube may have been damaged during engine assembly. Over time a fuel leak could develop, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Dealers will inspect the engine assembly for damage to the fuel rail crossover tube and replace it as necessary. For more information about the recall, owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is S85 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-814.

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles regarding a problem that could compromise the airbag safety system. According to the defect report, the affected vehicles were manufactured with driver’s knee airbags that may have improper welds. The problem could result in inadequate airbag inflation or possible additional injuries to the driver under certain types of crashes.

Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the driver’s knee air bag module. For more information about the recall, owners are asked to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is S84 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-799.

Chrysler will be contacting a small number of 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners about a problem affecting the equipment on their vehicles. In the affected Grand Cherokee’s, the rear tow hook bracket or tow eye bracket may not have been tightened sufficiently. If the tow bracket is loose it could separate from the vehicle, possibly becoming a road hazard or could result in a loss of control of the tow vehicle. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect both tow hook bracket bolts and tighten them ass necessary. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is S73 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-686.

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of approximately 1.5 million Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners, about a problem affecting the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC). According to the defect report, a short could develop in the ORC module and prevent the frontal airbags, side airbags, and seat belt pretensioners from deploying.

Drivers of certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee‘s may hear squeaks and rattles coming from the seats of their vehicles. Chrysler will be sending notices to owners instructing them to return to their dealerships to have the problem repaired.

According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, low torque on the first and/or second row seat fasteners could result in squeaks, rattles, deflection or unsatisfactory joint integrity. If the problem is not repaired, it could compromise the structural integrity of the seat. Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain Chrysler, Jeep and RAM vehicles, about a problem affecting their 9-speed automatic transmissions. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, some vehicles may have been built with a trans-axle wire harness with insufficient wire terminal crimps. These crimps could result in a high resistance which will cause the on board diagnostic system to set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and shift the vehicle into neutral. Continue reading →

An investigation into gear shifters problems, suspected to be linked to the death of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, has been closed by the NHTSA following a recall issued by Chrysler. The vehicles affected are equipped with an 8 speed transmission and a monostable gear selector and include:

According to the defect report, drivers may not be adequately alerted when they exit the vehicle and the transmission is not in the “Park” position. The owners of certain 2016 Jeep Cherokees will be contacted by Chrysler regarding a problem affecting the powertrain system. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, the vehicles were assembled with halfshafts incorrectly manufactured with low surface and high core hardness.
