Bently will be asking the owners of certain 2012-2015 Continental vehicles to return to their dealerships for a manufacturing problem that increases the risk of a fire. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the 12V battery cable connection at the bulkhead on the right hand side may have not been tightened sufficiently and could loosen over time. In rare cases, if the battery is significantly discharged and the vehicle is operated under increased electrical load, the connection could overheat. NTSB Recommends Improvements To Tire Registration and Tracking
A recent National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation shows that the way tires are currently registered and recalled is ineffective and is putting drivers and their passengers at risk. The NTSB opened an investigation into the problem after four tire related accidents in Florida, Louisiana, Arizona and California killed 12 people and injured 42 others. According to the NTSB over 500 people are killed and 19,000 others are injured every year in tire-related accidents and they are asking the NHTSA to implement a mandatory registration system. A problem affecting certain 2015-2016 Macan S and Macan Turbo crossover vehicles will have approximately 21,835 owners returning to their dealerships for repairs. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, these vehicles may have been manufactured with a low pressure fuel line in the engine compartment that could deteriorate over time and leak. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the rear drive shaft bolts may loosen and the rear drive shaft could separate from the transmission or the rear axle differential. Volkswagen announced today, that owners of vehicles equipped with software used to pass emissions tests could receive up to $1,000 in prepaid Visa cards and dealership credits, as well as free roadside assistance for three years. The offer is an attempt to regain customer trust as the company faces lawsuits from owners who want compensation for the loss in resale value of their vehicles. Mercedes Benz Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Problem
Mercedes Benz will be notifying the owners of certain 2008-2009 C300, C350, C63 cars and 2010 GLK350 SUVs about a problem affecting the airbag system. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, due to insufficient passivization during the manufacturing process, corrosion could lead to a malfunction of the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit. NHTSA Accelerates Takata Airbag Repairs
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation into exploding Takata airbags has found that the manufacturer violated the Motor Vehicle Safety Act as well as the Federal regulations implementing the Act. The NHTSA have imposed one of the largest civil penalties in NHTSA history and have ordered all 12 vehicle manufacturers to accelerate repairs, prioritizing recalls so the vehicles experiencing the greatest safety risk will be fixed first.
