2011-2014 Chrysler Alternator Failure

Chrysler will be asking certain 2011-2014 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep owners to return to their dealerships to repair a problems affecting the electrical system. According to the defect report, vehicles equipped with electrohydraulic power steering could experience diode thermal fatigue in the alternator. The problem could result in a rapid failure of the alternator with little or no warning. Depending on the failure mode and timing, system voltage drops could disable systems such as the Antilock Brake System, Electronic Stability Control, Engine Control Module, Central Body Controller or result in a loss of vehicle power. Diodes failing through thermal fatigue may also develop a resistive short that could result in a fire.

2013 Jeep Wrangler – Buyback For Repeated Repair Attempts

The Law Offices Of Delsack & Associates, P.C. were contacted by the owner of a 2013 Jeep Wrangler 4DR who was experiencing repeated problems with her vehicle.  She told us she had her Wrangler in for repairs on seven (7) different occasions for a defective axle; suspension and drive shaft; recall for transmission oil cooler tube; and loud clicking and clunking sounds.

After reviewing the repair orders and purchase contract, we determined that the 2013 Jeep Wrangler was a lemon and the owner qualified for protection under the California Lemon Law.  A short period after filing our demand to repurchase the defective vehicle, Fiat Chrysler agreed to a buyback.  They paid the balance of the purchase and reimbursed our client for the down payment and monthly payments, less the mileage fee allowed under the California Lemon Law.  FCA also paid all attorney’s fees. Dodge & Jeep Malfunction Indicator Lamp

Chrysler has determined that a defect exists in certain 2016 Dodge Journey, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot vehicles manufactured May 9, 2016 – July 15, 2016. According to the defect report, the crankshaft or camshaft sensor may operate intermittently and could result in an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), engine stall, and a no start condition.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealership to have the crankshaft or camshaft sensor replaced. 2017 Jeep Wrangler Cracked Control Valve

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2017 Jeep Wrangler vehicles regarding a problem affecting the fuel system. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with a fuel tank that has a cracked or broken control valve. The problem could result in a fuel leak during a rollover event, debris in the fuel tank and/or the potential of over fueling the vehicle. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Jeep dealers will inspect the fuel tank and replace fuel tank and sending unit as necessary. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is S90 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-849.

Dodge Durango & Jeep Grand Cherokee Fuel Line Leaks

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2016 Dodge Durango and 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.6L engines, regarding a problem affecting the fuel system. According to the defect report, the fuel rail crossover tube may have been damaged during engine assembly. Over time a fuel leak could develop, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

2017 Jeep Cherokee Airbag Safety Defect

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles regarding a problem that could compromise the airbag safety system. According to the defect report, the affected vehicles were manufactured with driver’s knee airbags that may have improper welds. The problem could result in inadequate airbag inflation or possible additional injuries to the driver under certain types of crashes.

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Tow Bracket May Loosen

Chrysler will be contacting a small number of 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners about a problem affecting the equipment on their vehicles. In the affected Grand Cherokee’s, the rear tow hook bracket or tow eye bracket may not have been tightened sufficiently. If the tow bracket is loose it could separate from the vehicle, possibly becoming a road hazard or could result in a loss of control of the tow vehicle. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

Chrysler Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) Problem

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of approximately 1.5 million Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners, about a problem affecting the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC). According to the defect report, a short could develop in the ORC module and prevent the frontal airbags, side airbags, and seat belt pretensioners from deploying.
