Legislation proposed by Senator Charles Schumer would cut federal highways financing by 25% to all states that do not comply with a test messaging ban.  Other automakers have not yet taken a stance on the bill.  <\/p>\n<p>The Governors Highway Safety Association, which initially opposed such a law has now changed its opinion based on a study by Virginia Tech which says that drivers texting have a 23 time greater risk of a crash than those not texting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ford Motor Company became the first auto manufacturer to endorse a federal ban on drivers text messaging.
