Owners of approximately 170,172 model year 2010-2012 BMW vehicles equipped with inline 6 cylinder engines are not covered by this recall, but will receive extended warranties to address this condition.<!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>A quality fault with the housing bolts for the variable camshaft timing (VANOS) adjustment unit could result in the bolts loosening or breaking.  The problem could lead to an internal oil leak of the unit, alerting the vehicles engine electronics that there is a problem.   Limp Home mode will be activated, reducing engine power and the \u201ccheck engine\u201d or \u201cservice engine soon\u201d warning lights will be illuminated.
