Owners of certain 2014 Infiniti Q50 sedans will be asked to make arrangements to have their vehicles towed to the nearest Infiniti retailer so that repairs can be done to the steering system. The affected vehicles are equipped with Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) that previously received a software update to address power steering assist calibration issues.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, during normal operation, the amount of electrical current delivered to the steering actuator motors are designed to vary based on ambient temperatures. Nissan recently reprogrammed a small number of Q50 vehicles to address power steering assist issues and discovered that, if the interior of the engine compartment reaches freezing temperatures, the reprogram could cause an interruption of the current to the actuators as well as delay the mechanical backup system. There have already been several complaints of drivers unexpectedly experiencing loss of steering.

Nissan will be contacting owners of all affected vehicles by phone to arrange to have their Q50’s towed in for repairs. They are asking that the vehicles not be driven until repairs can been made. For more information about the problem, contact Infiniti at 1-800-662-6200. The NHTSA Campaign Number is 13V-588.
